5. Token System

Every action in the platform consumes tokens. Tokens are the platform's usage currency, allocated monthly based on your membership tier.

Token Balance & Allocation

  • Bronze: 100 tokens/month, reset on your billing cycle date
  • Silver: 500 tokens/month
  • Gold: Unlimited (displayed as 999,999 — no deductions occur)
  • Unused tokens do not roll over to the next month
  • Bonus tokens from rewards do add to your current balance

View your current balance on the Dashboard Overview or the Tokens page.

Token Consumption

When you perform a tokenized action, the system:

  1. Verifies your tier meets the action's minimum tier requirement
  2. Checks you have sufficient token balance (Gold users skip this check)
  3. Deducts the token cost from your balance
  4. Records a transaction in your history
  5. Triggers any eligible auto-rewards in the background

If you don't have enough tokens, the action is blocked and you'll see an "Insufficient tokens" error.

Token Cost Reference

Token costs are organized by category. Here are the key costs:

6. VTM Studio

Accessing the VTM

Click VTM in the sidebar to open the Virtual Time Machine in a secure embedded viewer. The VTM engine loads directly in your browser — no downloads or installations required.

The VTM header bar shows your current token balance and tier badge at all times.

VTM Features

The VTM is B4_UR_IZ®'s core 3D/4D visualization engine providing:

  • Hierarchical financial data navigation in 3D space
  • Time-series playback across quarters and years
  • Sector and segment drill-down analysis
  • Forecasting: 4-quarter (Bronze), 8-quarter (Silver), 10-quarter (Gold)
  • Monte Carlo simulation and stress testing
  • DCF valuation and DuPont decomposition
  • Anomaly detection with z-score analysis
  • Cross-dataset comparison (X-COMPARE)
  • Export to CSV, HTML Rose charts, and 3D OBJ files
  • Full audit trail with blockchain-ready chain export

Token Usage in VTM

The VTM communicates with the SaaS platform via a secure message bridge. Each action inside the VTM (loading data, navigating, analyzing, exporting) sends a token consumption request to the platform. If your balance is insufficient, the action is blocked inside the VTM with a notification.

The VTM URL is obfuscated and proxied through the platform's server for security. Direct access to the engine URL is not possible through the SaaS interface.

7. Data Library

The Data Library is your hub for datasets, templates, and converted files. It has 4 tabs, each serving a specific purpose. Access requires Silver tier or above.

Bridge CSV Library

Pre-built VTM-compatible datasets for major public equities and PE/VC funds:

Each download costs 2 tokens — Data Library lookup.

Conversion Templates (Gold Only)

Downloadable Excel intake workbooks that serve as templates for the converters. The workflow is:

  1. Download a template from the Conversion Templates tab
  2. Open the Excel file and replace the sample data with your own data
  3. Go to the Converted Files tab
  4. Upload your filled workbook using the appropriate converter
  5. The system produces a VTM Bridge CSV ready for the Virtual Time Machine

Available templates:

  • APEX_FUND_III_intake_v2_filled.xlsx — PE/VC Fund intake template with Fund Info, Portfolio Registry, and 5 entity sheets (228 line items each). Pre-filled with Apex Growth Partners sample data.
Templates are Gold-only. Download costs 2 tokens. More templates will be added over time.

Converted Files

This tab shows all CSV files produced by the Excel→CSV converters. These files are automatically saved to the platform and available for download. It also houses the two converter tools (see Section 8).

Documentation

Reference materials including the B4_UR_IZ® VTM Help Manual (PDF format). Download costs 2 tokens.

Downloading Files

To download any file from the Data Library:

  1. Navigate to the appropriate tab (Bridge CSV, Templates, Converted, or Documentation)
  2. Find the dataset you want using the search bar or by scrolling
  3. Click the Download button on the dataset card
  4. The file downloads to your computer and 2 tokens are deducted from your balance
Gold users still see token deductions recorded in their transaction history for audit purposes, but their balance remains at 999,999.

8. Excel→CSV Converters

The platform includes two converters that transform Excel workbooks into VTM-compatible Bridge CSV files. Both are accessible from the Converted Files tab in the Data Library.

PE/VC Fund Converter (Silver+)

Designed specifically for private equity and venture capital fund workbooks. It reads multi-sheet Excel files with the following structure:

  • Fund Info sheet — fund name, vintage year, currency, strategy
  • Portfolio Registry sheet — entity list with names, sectors, ownership percentages
  • Entity sheets — one per portfolio company, each containing 228 standardized line items across quarterly periods

The converter auto-detects the fund structure, applies consolidation methods (CONSOLIDATION, EQUITY, FAIR_VALUE), and produces a comprehensive Bridge CSV with all entities, their attribution data, and fund-level KPIs.

Cost: 5 tokens — PE/VC conversion. Minimum tier: SILVER

Generic Hierarchical Converter (Gold Only)

Handles any Excel workbook that contains hierarchical data with dotted-index notation (e.g., 1, 1.1, 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.2, etc.). The converter:

  • Auto-detects the best sheet in a multi-sheet workbook using intelligent scoring
  • Identifies the hierarchical index column (dotted notation like 1, 1.1, 1.1.1)
  • Detects period columns — year numbers (2015, 2016...) or quarter labels (Q1 2015, Qtr 1...)
  • Maps hierarchy: Index, Parent (derived from index), Name, Type (CATEGORY/GROUP/ITEM), Depth
  • Handles multi-line Excel headers (e.g., "1997\nQtr# 1" → Q1_1997)
  • Parses comma-formatted numbers stored as strings

Cost: 5 tokens — Generic conversion. Minimum tier: GOLD

Flat Table Support

The Generic converter also handles flat tables — Excel files without a hierarchical dotted index. In this case:

  • The converter auto-generates sequential indices (1, 2, 3...)
  • All rows are treated as depth-1 ITEM entries
  • Period detection still works (year columns, quarter labels)
  • This is useful for simple tabular data like budgets, personnel lists, or time-series tables

Conversion Workflow

  1. Go to Data Library → Converted Files tab
  2. Choose the appropriate converter:
    • PE/VC Fund → VTM Bridge CSV (Silver+) for fund workbooks
    • Generic Data → VTM Bridge CSV (Gold) for any hierarchical or flat data
  3. Click Upload & Convert and select your .xlsx or .xls file
  4. The system auto-detects the workbook type and processes it
  5. On success, you see a confirmation with: output filename, row count, period count, file size
  6. Any auto-rewards earned are displayed (e.g., "First Conversion", "PE/VC Pioneer")
  7. The converted CSV appears in the file list below, ready for download or use in the Slicer & Dicer
The system auto-detects whether your workbook is a PE/VC fund file or a generic hierarchical file. You can use either converter button — the API routes to the correct one.

VTM Bridge CSV Format

All converters produce files in the VTM Bridge Index v2.0 format with 11 meta columns:

ColumnDescription
IndexHierarchical index (1, 1.1, 1.1.1)
ParentParent index (derived, e.g., 1 for 1.1)
NameRow label / line item name
TypeCATEGORY, GROUP, or ITEM
DepthHierarchy depth level (0, 1, 2...)
UnitCurrency or unit label
BinBin classification (optional)
SEC_RefSEC reference code (optional)
CategoryFunctional category (optional)
SubcategorySubcategory detail (optional)
FormatNumber format hint (optional)

After the 11 meta columns, period columns follow (e.g., Q1_2015, Q2_2015... or 2020, 2021...).

9. Slicer & Dicer

The Slicer & Dicer is a Gold-tier interactive pivot table builder that lets you analyze any dataset from the Data Library using drag-and-drop field configuration.

Accessing Slicer & Dicer

Click Slicer & Dicer in the sidebar. You must be a GOLD member. Bronze and Silver users see a locked message.

Loading a Dataset

Use the dropdown at the top to select a dataset. Sources include:

  • Bridge CSV Library — all 11 pre-built datasets
  • Converted Files — any files you've converted from Excel

Loading a dataset costs 3 tokens — Slicer & Dicer. Once loaded, the field list populates.

Fields & Drop Zones

After loading a dataset, you see the Fields panel on the left with all available columns, separated into:

  • META — text/categorical fields (Index, Parent, Name, Type, Category, etc.)
  • NUMERIC / PERIODS — numeric fields marked with # (Q1_2015, Q2_2015, etc.)

Drag fields into the 4 drop zones:

Row Labels

Group your data by these fields (e.g., Category, Name). Rows in the pivot table correspond to unique combinations of these fields.

Column Labels

Pivot data into columns (e.g., quarters, years). Each unique value becomes a column header.

Values (Σ) — REQUIRED

Numeric fields to aggregate. You MUST have at least one field here. Drag period columns (the amber # fields) into this zone.

Filters

Optional. Filter your data by specific values before pivoting. Checkboxes appear to select/deselect individual values.

Use the ⚡ Quick Setup button to auto-assign typical fields: Name → Row Labels, first 8 periods → Values, Category → Filters.

Generating a Pivot Table

To generate a pivot table, you need:

  1. At least one field in Values (Σ) — these are the numbers that get aggregated
  2. At least one field in Row Labels or Column Labels — these define the table structure

Once both requirements are met, click the ▶ Generate Pivot Table button. Choose an aggregation mode:

  • Sum — total of all values in each cell (default)
  • Average — mean value
  • Count — number of data points
  • Min / Max — smallest or largest value

The table preview shows up to 200 rows × 50 columns on screen. Larger datasets are truncated in the preview but fully exported via CSV.

Filtering Data

When you drag a field into the Filters zone, checkboxes appear showing all unique values for that field. Uncheck values to exclude them from the pivot computation.

Example: Drag "Category" into Filters, then uncheck "KPI" to exclude KPI rows from your analysis.

Exporting Results

Click Export CSV to download the complete pivot table as a CSV file. The export:

  • Includes ALL rows and columns (not limited by the preview cap)
  • Processes in chunks to prevent browser freezing on large datasets
  • Shows an "Exporting..." spinner while processing
  • File is named [dataset]_slicer_dicer.csv

10. Rewards & Gamification

The platform features a gamification system with 25 reward rules that grant bonus tokens for using the platform.

How Rewards Work

Each reward has:

  • Token bonus — tokens added to your balance when earned (2–15 tokens)
  • Cooldown — minimum hours between earning the same reward (typically 20–24 hours)
  • Daily limit — maximum times per day you can earn it (usually 1)
  • Lifetime limit — maximum total times (0 = unlimited)
  • Minimum tier — the lowest tier that can earn this reward

Reward Categories

  • Learning — first-time usage rewards (e.g., "First Load", "First Drill", "First Forecast")
  • Exploration — discovering platform features (e.g., "Explore Macro Data", "What-If Explorer")
  • Mastery — completing advanced analyses (e.g., "Forecast Master", "Pivot Master", "DCF Analyst")
  • Engagement — consistent usage (e.g., "Daily Check-In", "Weekly Warrior")
  • Conversion — using the Excel→CSV converters (e.g., "First Conversion", "PE/VC Pioneer", "Generic Guru")
  • Social — community-related actions (e.g., "Profile Complete", "Referral Bonus")
  • Streak — login streaks (e.g., "3-Day Streak", "7-Day Streak")
  • Milestone — cumulative usage milestones (e.g., "100 Token Milestone")
Rewards fire automatically when you perform qualifying actions — no need to manually claim them. A toast notification appears in the bottom-right corner showing the reward name and bonus tokens.

Auto-Reward System

The platform checks reward eligibility after every significant action (data loading, analysis, conversion). The system:

  1. Identifies the action you just performed
  2. Looks up all matching reward rules
  3. Checks cooldown, daily limit, lifetime limit, and tier eligibility
  4. Grants tokens and records the reward if all checks pass
Cooldowns are enforced server-side — refreshing the page or clearing cookies will not reset them.

Viewing Your Rewards

To see rewards you have earned:

  1. Go to Settings → Token History
  2. Filter by type "REWARD" to see all reward transactions
  3. Each entry shows the reward name, tokens earned, and timestamp

Your total token balance (shown in the sidebar) always reflects all rewards plus subscription tokens minus spent tokens.

11. Settings & Account

The Settings page lets you manage your profile, subscription, and account preferences.

Profile Management

Access via the Settings link in the left sidebar. Here you can view:

  • Your display name and email address
  • Current subscription tier and expiry date
